How To Survive New Years Eve

It's a fact few people care to admit, but New Years Eve is one of the most over rated and stress induced dates in the calender. The only way to be able to survive it is with forward planning. Spontaneity collapses on New Year's Eve as most drinking holes and clubs have cottoned on to this 'event' and sell tickets in advance, so here are our options for you!

Plan ahead and get all your friends to buy tickets for the same place on the night and go together. Or avoid hassles and debates by giving them all tickets to the venue that you want to go to for Christmas. Sneaky yes!

Glam up and if you're feeling energetic throw a dinner party.

Book a Cottage or go abroad.

Or you can watch the obligatory reruns on television, make a list of New Years Resolutions, stay up to hear Big Ben and go to bed sober. Wake up fresh as a daisy and ready to  start the New Year as you mean to go on: hitting the sales.

Signs You’re Way Too Old To Be Going Out This Hard

You feel like you’re coated in a permanent lining of dried sweat and whiskey.

The very mention of “shots” makes you want to hire your own personal security detail.

You’ve crossed paths with a particular bouncer with such frequency, you’ve started to wonder, with incredible detail, what his life outside his job is like.

Hangovers have taken on the mantra of the boyfriend/girlfriend who’s around so often, it really doesn’t make sense not to move in.

Every upbeat song making the current radio rounds is somewhat familiar, though you don’t have the slightest clue who all these “going out” songs are by.

You’ve slept on enough random sofas to have penned an review book of them.

You haven’t bought new clothes in 2 months, but your checking account makes you cringe each time.

After breaking down the numbers, you’ve become so upset with the terrible investment that is drinking alcohol that you need a cocktail this second.

And then subsequently hate-google “AA.”

There is no word to describe the envy you feel for people who “have mornings” and don’t sweat radioactive poison.

Tell everyone you know how much you hate drinking, in the way a third grader with a huge crush on Sarah tells everyone how much he hates Sarah.

You order entire pizzas for yourself, have one bite, burp, and fall asleep.

Your greatest fear is looking at a picture of your liver.

You’ve lost so many dinners to happy hours, you have half a mind to construct a memorial.

Even that really strong-willed angel that floats around your right ear has come to terms with the fact that your car is probably gonna be staying here overnight.

Your blackout resume features both proms and weddings.

You take to shadowing the drunken Aunt/Uncle at weddings, just to see if it’s a suitable career path.

You’ve started to refer to the hardest of your nights as “your ‘nam.”

It’s 2am, you have work in 5 hours, and the zombie that has taken over your body is staring at the wall repeating “drank, drank.” incessantly.

I mean you know it's time to start on the cocoa and early nights when you start finding these relevant!

Ways To Make Today Epic!

From time to time we all need a day which is just for us, so we say take a day off work or find a day to make amazing and do as many things on this list as you can!

Upon waking, immediately blast your favourite song at top volume. Just for one day, don’t worry if you’re bothering anyone. Dance around while you get ready.

If you normally make coffee at home to save money, today is your day to splurge.

Pay for the coffee of the person in line behind you.

Do something physical before work/class. Be it yoga, running, hooking up, or just jazzercising in your socks with your cat, you’ll feel good no matter what happens next.

Text five people you love with a funny Emoji or just a “HI MISS YOU!” The responses will trickle back throughout your morning, putting a smile on your face.

Go out and run as fast as you can just to see how it feels.

Wear something extra. Whatever your normal look is, crank it up. Red lipstick, statement necklace, coloured trousers, fedora, whatever. Just make it bold.

Blast the song that was “your jam” in high school.

Binge watch a show from your childhood like Boy Meets World.

Stir up a conversation with a complete stranger.

Grab a friend and go to the nearest city that isn’t your home. Or, just a town you don’t usually hang out in. Get outside of your everyday life.

Do something rash. Buy a plane ticket, ask out a stranger, doesn’t matter. Just something impulsive. Something that will make you realise how brave you are once you loosen the reins a bit.

Rock a look you’ve always wanted to wear, but felt you couldn’t pull off.

Go to a “tourist” destination in your city and imagine what it must be like for out of towners to travel there to see it.

Flirt like you’re Justin Timberlake on holiday. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, you can still smile a tiny bit too long at the barista. It doesn’t have to mean anything! Studies have proven that flirting boosts happiness overall.

Get some chalk and colour on the pavement. You’ll brighten up the day for all your neighbours too!

Go to Tumblr and search “LOL.” They bump up the funniest posts to this tag so you’re guaranteed a solid 20 minutes of belly laughs.

Give someone a genuine compliment. This is kind of the opposite of flirting, but think of someone you interact with often and pay them some thoughtful, specific praise. It’ll feel amazing to see that person’s reaction.

Get a psychic reading.

Go just a little overboard with everything you do. Usually get a drip coffee? Go latte. If you’re already at daily latte status, then you are a coffee lush and must go full Frappuccino with whip. Get at it!

Eat something you’ve never had before.

When planning your night out, go anywhere but the usual places. Actually do some research to find out what you’re missing out on in your town. Where is that place you’ve always heard about but never tried? Where’s the place with the reputation for being the most insane? You know what to do.

Ask your oldest living relative what life was like when they were your age.

Tip your waiter/waitress 100%, and resist the urge not to hang around to see his/her reaction.

Map out your dream travel plans for when you accomplish everything you’ve set out to accomplish.

Jump on a trampoline.

Look into brewing your own beer.

Go to a florist, you don’t have to buy anything but admire all the beautiful flowers and plants.

Eat whatever disgusting guilty pleasure food you love.

Take pictures of yourself and your friends! You may feel selfie shame in the moment, but in a few years you’ll be happy you have them.

Splurge on a massage or a haircut.

Call your parents and just tell them you love them.

Have an outdoor barbecue while the weather’s still great.

Get a free makeover at a makeup counter. But whatever makes you look really great. Give the person who helped you a big smile and let them know they made your day.

Go to a public place and people watch. Write a short story (even if you “can’t write”) about one of the interesting people you see.

Find that special thing in the back of your closet that you’re obsessed with but never wear because, say, it’s leather pants or a see-through bodysuit. Wear that.

Go to a few restaurants with your friends and share an order of the same thing at each, argue about which ones were the best.

ake a luxurious nap–let yourself fall asleep on the couch and don’t worry about when you have to wake up. Don’t set an alarm.

Find a friend’s email from like, 2007 that you never answered, and reply as though no time has passed at all.

Give a homeless person a book.

Make a pile of all the stuff you no longer wear, and donate it.

Go to the beach and relax in the sun.

Buy a ticket to a concert you really want to see.

Figure out what your anthem would be if you were a stripper. Blast the song alone in your apartment and sexy dance to it.

If you have to wait in line somewhere, give yourself an alter-ego and introduce yourself to strangers by your “new name.” Be the acrobat/flight attendant/ex-convict you always wanted to be. See how many white lies you can spew off without blowing your cover.

Paint something. Who cares if you don’t know how?

Write an actual letter to someone you haven’t talked to in a while.

Read old emails with someone you loved, and then DELETE THEM FOREVER SO YOU STOP TORTURING YOURSELF.

Super soaker battle or water balloon fight!

Climb a tree.

Make a bonfire somewhere and burn everything that needs to go: the pants that won’t ever fit, letters from your ex, a list of things you hate about yourself. Feel the catharsis as it turns to ash.

Write down a list of totally achievable things you’d like to do in the next year and store it somewhere you’ll see it sporadically and check off your progress.

Look up a complicated drink recipe online and get the ingredients. Enjoy a fancy cocktail in your apartment because, you deserve it!

Buy a bottle of champagne for no good reason, and then drink it in the bathtub/shower.

Smile, just because.
